Bowley’s Fourth Grade students spent the month of May engaged in meaningful, student-centered learning experiences that encouraged collaboration, critical thinking, and academic ownership. Through hands-on activities, literacy discussions, and performance tasks, students demonstrated confidence in explaining their thinking, supporting peers, and tracking their own progress. Fourth Grade classrooms continue to reflect Bowley’s commitment to purposeful instruction, student engagement, and joyful learning.
Third graders at Bowley Elementary are building ownership of their learning by using success criteria and “I Can” statements across all subject areas. These student-friendly goals help guide lessons and allow students to clearly understand expectations. As they continue to grow, students are now using rubrics to reflect on their work by identifying their “glows” and “grows.” This process encourages self-reflection, strengthens understanding, and supports students in meeting and exceeding learning targets.
Educators across the DoWEA Mid-Atlantic District gathered for the second day of Continuous School Improvement professional learning, focusing on data-driven strategies and collaboration to advance teaching practices and student outcomes.
Second-grade students celebrated their learning with a showcase highlighting growth in reading and math. In English Language Arts, they demonstrated the ability to compare and contrast stories using tools like Venn diagrams and thoughtful discussions. In math, students applied strategies such as bar models to solve two-digit addition and subtraction problems with regrouping. This celebration reflected DoDEA’s commitment to Student Excellence, as students showed confidence, strong problem-solving skills, and continued academic growth.
First grade students are building confidence and fluency through Reader’s Theater, where reading comes to life through performance. By taking on roles and working together, students strengthen their speaking, listening, and teamwork skills while having fun with reading.
