Principal's Corner

Welcome to Bowley Elementary School

Welcome to the 2024-2025 school year and Bowley Elementary School's website.  We are excited to embark upon another school year filled with exceptional educational service to our military community and military-connected children.  Our dedicated team of teachers and support staff, who are committed to excellence in teaching and learning, have the highest expectations for our students. Together, we strive to create a school environment that enhances student achievement and promotes joy in learning.

DoDEA’s Blueprint for Continuous Improvement provides our school with guidance regarding the learning experiences provided to our military-connected students and families.  Throughout the school year, our Blueprint will influence many facets of our school.  Also, Bowley Elementary utilizes DoDEA’s Career and College Ready Standards (CCRS) to guide our instruction and assessment program.  Through collaborative planning and dialogue, our faculty develops standards-aligned learning tasks and activities which serve as tools to monitor each student’s academic, social and physical progress.  Furthermore, our school uses many resources, such as special education and AAPS (gifted) teachers, to ensure immediate and appropriate support is provided to our students as a result of monitoring of collected data.  Information pertaining to CCRS and other content-area curricula is available on DoDEA and Bowley Elementary’s website.

We believe parents/guardians are an essential element in the educational program of our school.  Strong partnerships with our military-connected families leads to an outstanding student learning experience and, also, promotion of individual student academic, behavioral, and social/emotional growth.  With that said, parents/guardian participation in the learning process is vital to creating an atmosphere of collective commitment to student success.  Bowley Elementary offers many opportunities for our parents/guardians to become involved in the learning process.  We invite our parents/guardians to volunteer, participate in school events, and attend Parent Teacher Association (PTA) meetings, to name a few, in order to support all students' learning and actively participate in our school's continuous improvement.

We look forward to partnering with the entire learning community throughout this school year.  Please do not hesitate to contact the school at any time to answer any questions or assist in navigating Bowley Elementary’s educational program.  We appreciate our learning community’s support and assistance as we work together to ensure all students “achieve.”

Sincerely,

Raymond Burk

The DoDEA Americas Mid-Atlantic District has achieved a remarkable score of 353 on the Cognia Index of Education Quality (IEQ), surpassing the network average of 296, as noted in the May 21, 2025, Accreditation Engagement Review. This recognition from Cognia, a globally respected nonprofit that accredits schools for their commitment to high standards in teaching, learning, and leadership, underscores the district’s dedication to military-connected students. Excelling on Cognia’s 4-point scale with scores of 3.5 in Culture of Learning, 3.4 in Leadership for Learning, 3.3 in Engagement of Learning, and 3.3 in Growth in Learning—well above network averages—the district fosters a supportive environment with strong teacher-student relationships, innovative technology like a 1:1 Chromebook ratio, and programs such as Focused Collaboration and STEAM activities. Ranked as the top U.S. school system for 4th and 8th graders in the 2024 NAEP, DoDEA’s global curriculum and tailored support make it a standout choice for military families, a commitment echoed by Superintendent Ryan Smith as the district plans to share findings and drive further improvements.
