This year, our school dove into the colorful and inspiring world of *The Dot*, a beloved children’s book by Peter H. Reynolds, in honor of International Dot Day. Led by our incredible library staff, Ms. Lucas and her assistant, Ms. Hampe, the event was a collaboration filled with creativity, confidence-building, and a dash of bravery!

**What is Dot Day?**
International Dot Day, celebrated on September 15th, is all about encouraging creativity and recognizing that everyone has the potential to make a mark in their own unique way. It’s inspired by *The Dot*, where a young girl named Vashti learns to have confidence in her artistic abilities. With a simple dot, she discovers her inner creativity and shares it with the world.

**The Dynamic Duo: Ms. Lucas and Ms. Hampe**

This year’s Dot Day was nothing short of magical, thanks to the brilliant teamwork of Ms. Lucas, our dedicated school librarian, and Ms. Hampe, her enthusiastic assistant. Together, they transformed the library into an artistic wonderland where students could explore their own creativity just like Vashti.

**A Classroom Collaboration!**

What made this Dot Day extra special was the partnership between the library and classroom teachers. Ms. Lucas and Ms. Hampe worked hand in hand with teachers to plan engaging activities for students. Teachers incorporated lessons from *The Dot* into their classes, encouraging students to think about how they, too, can "make their mark" in the world.

**Activities that Sparked Joy**
The library buzzed with excitement as students of all ages participated in various Dot Day activities. Here's a peek at some of the fun that unfolded:

- **Dot Art Challenge:** Armed with markers, crayons, and paint, students created their own dot masterpieces, experimenting with colors, shapes, and patterns. Some students made simple dots, while others created entire dot-filled universes!

- **Read-Aloud with Ms. Lucas:** Ms. Lucas gathered students for a lively read-aloud of *The Dot*. She brought Vashti’s story to life, inviting everyone to think about how even a small mark can lead to something big.

- **Dot Day Showcase** The event culminated in a Dot Day Showcase, where students proudly displayed their creations for the school. The colorful dots decorate the hallway, reminding everyone that a single mark can have a ripple effect of inspiration.

**Why Dot Day Matters**
International Dot Day isn’t just about art; it’s about helping students realize that taking a chance and making an effort can lead to incredible things. Ms. Lucas and Ms. Hampe reminded students that like Vashti, they have the power to take risks and be proud of their unique abilities.

Remember, whether it’s a dot on a piece of paper or a bold idea, the mark you make matters. So, grab your paintbrushes, pens, or even just your imagination—and go make your mark!
